A Guide To Selling Clothes On eBay

One of the easiest ways to start making money online is to sell clothes on eBay. You can sell both brand new clothing as well as used clothing.

If you’re selling brand new clothing, you will need to find a supplier for the clothing that is cheaper than the retail price. You will need to do your research and find out the typical online prices for the particular type of clothing you want to sell.

So, for example, if you want to sell brand name t-shirts, then you need to check the current price on Ebay, Amazon and other online marketplaces. Then, you will have to find a source where you can purchase it much cheaper so that when you list it for sale on eBay and it gets sold, you’ll make a profit.

On the other hand, if you want to sell used clothing, you will need to sort through the clothes that you have and select the pieces that are in good to excellent condition.

You should also do some research on the used clothing prices for those particular pieces. This will give you an idea on how to price them so that they can be quickly sold.

For example, if you have a particular shirt that is currently being sold on Ebay for $50 brand new and $35 used, then a good price point to list your used shirt would be between $30 – $34.

Now, the most important part of selling clothes on eBay is your listing and what you write. It is extremely important that you include the measurements of the clothing so that potential buyers can know exactly whether it would fit them or not.

This will reduce the number of returns you get, which will improve your overall profit margins. Be sure to include measurements such as the chest, waist, sleeve length, pants length, hips etc.

Another great tip is to properly display your clothes. You should start by washing or dry cleaning the clothes you intend to sell and then ironing or steaming them so they are wrinkle free.

Then, you will need to display them and take pictures. How you display your clothes matter quite a lot and clothes that are displayed on a mannequin tend to sell much faster than those that aren’t.

This is because the mannequin helps people to see and visualize how the piece of clothing would look on them and how it is supposed to fit. Thankfully, mannequins are not very expensive and you can easily purchase one for $20 or so on Ebay.

Lastly, you should be as descriptive as possible in the listing. This means that you should include the brand of the clothes, size, type of material it is made up of, color, its condition, washing instructions etc. The more detailed you are, the higher your chances of getting the item sold.

In closing, we have just looked at a couple of guidelines for selling clothes on eBay. This is definitely a great way to start selling online and it is a model that is highly profitable.

Poshmark VS eBay – Which Is Better?

By John

selling clothes

Reselling clothing items online can be a great source of additional income when you choose the right platform to sell. You can do it even as a full-time job when you get the hang out of selling on eBay or Poshmark.

eBay and Poshmark are two of the biggest online marketplaces for selling used and new clothing items. The average reseller may want to know which platform to choose to sell his/her used and new clothing items. Here is a comparison of Poshmark vs eBay.

Ease Of Use

Where ease of use is concerned, eBay beats Poshmark hands down. Even though subcategories and specifications make eBay listing a bit complicated, a lot of the information is auto-filled.

The time taken to maintain your listings on Poshmark is huge. When a customer searches for an item on Poshmark, the recent listings will show up first. You have to be active on Poshmark to get frequent sales. Sellers on eBay can leave their listings up without much maintenance.

Fees

The seller’s profits may depend on the fees charged by the specific platform. Check out the fees charged by the platform when you are choosing the best platform to sell your goods.

eBay will charge 10% for most clothing categories while you have to cover the 3% PayPal fee. The total selling fee on eBay is 13%. This is a fair rate compared to the vastness of eBay.

Poshmark will charge a flat fee of 20% for every sale. Sellers who use Poshmark complains that the platform’s fees cut into their profits. eBay is a clear winner where the sales fees of the platforms are concerned.

Shipping Costs

All items sold on Poshmark have a $6.49 shipping fee. This can be a high cost when selling low-priced items. Although shipping on eBay is more complicated, it is calculated based on the zip code and size of the package of the buyer.

This gives more flexibility to the seller to absorb shipping into their prices. Selling low-priced items are easier with this type of shipping fee structure.

The shipping policy of Poshmark is not complicated but can deter some buyers due to its fee structure. Although eBay has a complicated shipping policy, it gives more options to the buyers. eBay wins where shipping costs and policies are concerned.

Marketplace

The eBay marketplace is huge with over 200-million users a year. Poshmark has a much smaller user base compared to eBay, but the market is growing. While you can sell internationally on eBay, you can only sell in the US when selling on Poshmark. Make sure you choose the right platform depending on how you plan to market your items.

If you plan to sell used or new clothing items online, make sure you choose the right platform. eBay and Poshmark are two of the most popular platforms out there. Selling on Poshmark vs eBay can make a huge difference depending on the clothing item. Overall, eBay is easier and more profitable compared to selling on Poshmark.
